Next continental confederation opposes Infantino!

Following UEFA and CONCACAF, the President of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, has also clearly opposed the world governing body's approach. This was reported by the news agency "Reuters".

In a letter to the 47 member associations of the AFC, which "Reuters" has seen, the Bahraini described FIFA's failure to involve the continental confederations as "completely unacceptable".

AFC President Issues Warning

"The AFC notes with great concern and disappointment that it was not consulted by FIFA at any level prior to the public announcement of this proposal," wrote Sheikh Salman. Furthermore, the confederation has not received any detailed analyses of the possible financial, legal, or organizational implications.

The AFC President warned that such an approach could jeopardize the existing structures of world football. "FIFA's unilateral actions appear to undermine the cornerstones of continental football, which are based on solidarity, cooperation, and transparency," said Sheikh Salman.

Without the consent of the continental confederations, the project cannot be successfully implemented, emphasized the 58-year-old. He demanded that Infantino's proposal must first be "thoroughly reviewed and discussed through the appropriate legal and governance channels".

Criticism of Tight Schedule

Additionally, Sheikh Salman criticized what he considered to be a too-tight schedule. Infantino had announced in a letter to all 211 FIFA member associations that each association should receive 40 million US dollars if it agrees to the proposal by September 19.

"The AFC is surprised that the current timetable allows only an extremely limited period for the review of such a significant proposal. Decisions of this magnitude should never be rushed," explained the AFC President, according to the "Reuters" report.
