Sturm's Record Sale Höjlund Explains Himself After CR7 Celebration
The Danish forward celebrated his goal against Portugal with Ronaldo's iconic celebration and received criticism for it. Now the Napoli player speaks out.
The Cristiano Ronaldo affair is currently making waves in Portugal!
On Thursday evening, the "Selecao" secured a 4-2 victory against Denmark in the UEFA Nations League. It was the first match after the superstar's departure.
Post-Match Discussions
The celebration by Denmark forward Rasmus Höjlund in the 58th minute also caused a stir. The former SK Sturm Graz attacker scored the temporary equalizer to make it 2-2 and then celebrated with Ronaldo's iconic "Siu" celebration.
This celebration subsequently sparked several discussions and was publicly interpreted by some as mockery.
Höjlund Clarifies Celebration
In an interview with "TV2", the Graz record sale now commented on it: "That was simply a tribute to a man whose national team career might be over after the events of the day before the match. That's why I simply wanted to honor him one more time."
The celebration "has absolutely nothing to do with disrespect. He is my great idol."
Höjlund played for Sturm in the ADMIRAL Bundesliga from January 2022 until August of the same year, then moved to Serie A club Atalanta Bergamo for 21 million euros. He then moved to SSC Napoli via Manchester United, where he is currently under contract.
