Germany Botches Jürgen Klopp's Home Debut
The DFB team finds too few offensive solutions and concedes the only goal of the evening from a counter-attack.
In their first home match of the Jürgen Klopp era, Germany suffers a 0:1 defeat against Greece in the Nations League.
In the first half, Germany largely falls short of expectations in Augsburg.
The first good opportunity arises after a quick transition: Kimmich sends Adeyemi through, who uses his pace but puts the ball just over the goal (26.).
Adeyemi Tries His Luck
In the 32nd minute, Adeyemi is again in the spotlight. This time, the offensive player gets his shot on target, but is denied by the strongly reacting Greece keeper Tzolakis.
After the break, the first chance falls to Ilzer protégé Bambase Conte. The midfielder tries a well-placed long-range shot, but Tzolakis is there again (48.).
Tzolakis also brilliantly fishes a dangerous Kimmich free-kick out of the top corner (52.).
During this phase, the Greeks defend well and lurk for counter-attacking situations.
Greeks Take the Lead
At the other end, Ioannidis gets a big chance to take the lead after a careless loss of possession by Kimmich. The attacker appears alone in front of Nübel, but puts his shot wide of the goal (67.).
Seven minutes later, the Greeks do better: A cross from Tzolis is initially deflected and lands at Kourbelis' feet. Kimmich unluckily deflects Kourbelis' shot for the 0:1, making it unstoppable for Nübel (74.).
In the dying minutes, Klopp's side creates no clear chances and has to concede defeat.
It is Greece's first-ever victory against Germany in their eleventh encounter.
