Four international matches in two and a half weeks? For Andreas Herzog, that's too much. The former ÖFB national player strongly criticizes the new format.

For the first time, the autumn international break was consolidated into a longer window.

Instead of the usual two international matches in September and October, four games were scheduled within an extended international break this time.

In the new episode of "HERZERL mit JANKO," Andreas Herzog and Marc Janko discuss the new format.

"Not ideal"

Herzog is critical of the extended international break. "Four games in two and a half weeks are too many for me. I believe that an international match should always be something special," explains the former ÖFB national player.

While multiple matches in a short period are a given at a European Championship or World Cup, Herzog sees the situation differently for a Nations League qualifier.

"The emotions are certainly there, but not like with two games in two weeks, which you look forward to more," says the 58-year-old.

Herzog views this critically: "Frankly, it was too much for me." He also believes it's "not ideal" for club coaches who have to do without their players during the long international break.
