France legend likely to become Senegal coach
The 1998 World Cup winner is expected to take over the Senegalese national team. He succeeds Pape Thiaw.
Patrick Vieira is the new head coach of the Senegalese national team.
The 50-year-old is said to have signed a long-term contract on Tuesday, succeeding Pape Thiaw.
The 45-year-old (Thiaw) failed with Senegal at the World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada, losing to Belgium in the round of 16. They lost 3-2 in extra time.
First Appointment as National Coach
Patrick Vieira, who coached Genoa FC until November 2025, was himself under contract with international top clubs as a player. The Frenchman played for AC Milan, Arsenal FC, Juventus Turin, Inter Milan, and Manchester City.
His career was crowned with the 1998 World Cup title with France.
