Former Germany international Niclas Füllkrug is back in the Bundesliga
The 33-year-old moves back to Germany on loan from parent club West Ham United.
Niclas Füllkrug returns to Werder Bremen!
The club from the Weser announced this on Tuesday afternoon. Füllkrug joins on loan for one season from parent club West Ham United. However, the deal does not include a purchase option.
According to German media, Füllkrug reportedly also waived part of his salary to facilitate his return to Werder.
Back to the Roots
"Fülle has made a clear commitment to Werder. Niclas knows the Bundesliga and will definitely be an immediate help for us. We know that the last two years haven't quite gone as he imagined, but we are convinced that he will successfully continue his career at Werder," said Werder's Head of Professional Football, Peter Niemeyer.
Füllkrug is a Werder academy product, having come through their youth system there, and after several loan spells became a Bremen goal-scorer and Germany international (24 appearances, 14 goals to date).
Injury-Plagued Spell at West Ham
In the summer of 2023, he moved to Borussia Dortmund for a reported 17 million euros, and a year later to West Ham for 27 million. However, he never truly settled there, mainly due to injuries. In spring 2026, he was loaned to AC Milan, but even there, his return of one goal in 20 appearances was rather modest.
The move back to the Weser is now intended to give his career new momentum.
