Lionel Messi scores, but Inter Miami's winless streak continues

Inter Miami's wait for their first win since early August continues. On Saturday (local time), superstar Lionel Messi's team suffered a 1-2 defeat against FC Toronto in MLS.

Messi was on the field for the entire match but had to watch as Josh Sargent (59') and Derrick Etienne (62') gave Toronto a 2-0 lead after an hour.

Messi was able to pull one back to 1-2 after an assist from Rodrigo De Paul, scoring his 14th goal of the current MLS season, placing him second in the top scorer list (2 goals behind Petar Musa), but it wasn't enough to prevent the defeat.

It's the fifth consecutive game in which Miami has failed to win. In fact, four of their last five competitive matches (two of which were in the Leagues Cup) have been lost.

In the Eastern Conference standings, Inter Miami is thus increasingly losing ground to Nashville SC, who already have 49 points. Miami, with 39 points, still holds second place.
