Sad certainty! Hannes Wolf misses MLS Playoffs
One game before the end of the MLS regular season, it's confirmed: This year, the playoffs will take place without Hannes Wolf and New York City FC.
Austrian international Hannes Wolf and his New York City FC will miss the MLS Playoffs 2026.
The Austrian's team needed a win against CF Montreal on Saturday to still have a chance on the final matchday of the regular season to play their way into the Top 9 of the Eastern Conference.
Instead, New York City FC had to settle for a bitter 1-1 draw. It was especially bitter because they conceded the equalizer from Daniel Rios only in the second minute of added time.
Before that, Andres Perea gave New York the lead in the 41st minute. Wolf was substituted on in the 57th minute.
New York four points shy of Top 9
After 33 matchdays, New York has 39 points, which only puts them in eleventh place in the Eastern Conference. Montreal, as the bottom-ranked team in the Eastern Conference, is also eliminated, by the way.
The top 7 teams from each conference automatically qualify for the playoffs, while teams in eighth and ninth place compete for the remaining postseason spots in the Wild Card Round.
By the way, David Schnegg is definitely in the playoffs. As the current fifth-placed team in the Eastern Conference, Charlotte FC has already secured their ticket. On Saturday, Charlotte won 4-0 against Orlando. Schnegg remained on the bench for 90 minutes.
