Former Liefering Captain Moves to College Soccer
Benjamin Atiabou was under contract with Werder Bremen last season; now he is moving to a US university.
Benjamin Atiabou is continuing his career in the USA.
As announced this week, the 22-year-old from Salzburg will lace up his boots for the University of Akron.
At Akron, Atiabou will play for the Akron Zips, who are part of the Big East Conference.
Development Stalled
Atiabou was once considered one of the country's best right-back talents. In 2009, he moved to FC Red Bull Salzburg's youth academy and worked his way up to FC Liefering.
The multiple ÖFB youth national player made a total of 44 appearances in the ADMIRAL 2. Liga and also captained Liefering on the field, but the next big leap in his development did not materialize.
In 2024, he moved to Werder Bremen's second team, for whom he made 14 appearances in the Regionalliga Nord. Now he is taking the step to America.
