Strong Polster secures a draw against Go Ahead Eagles
NEC Nijmegen fails to secure a win for the fourth consecutive league match - Nikolas Polster replaces regular goalkeeper Crettaz with a brilliant performance.
NEC Nijmegen once again fails to get more than a draw in the Eredivisie.
Against Go Ahead Eagles, the UEFA Europa League participant had to settle for a 1-1 draw in the seventh round. "Eniesee" also has goalkeeper Nikolas Polster to thank for securing the draw at all.
The former WAC keeper, who replaced the injured Gonzalo Crettaz, made several impressive saves. Especially in the first half, when the visitors dictated play, the 24-year-old denied Sören Tengstedt twice (12th, 26th minute) and Victor Edvardsen once (23rd minute).
Fourth consecutive league match without a win
Peer Schuurs had previously given NEC the lead in the second minute, but Stefan Ingi Sigurdarson equalized shortly after (10th minute).
But in the second half, Polster also proved to be a reliable stopper, thwarting chances from Edvardsen (57th minute) and Thibo Baeten (90.+3).
Nijmegen thus remains winless in their fourth consecutive league match and is only in eleventh place. After the international break, Polster's team will visit Ajax Amsterdam.
Meanwhile, PSV Eindhoven had to admit defeat in Enschede despite an assist from Paul Wanner (for the match report >>>).
