Sexism Incident Costs Higuain Brother Coaching Job
The Argentinian conveyed to the female referee that it was a men's sport. That cost him his job.
Federico Higuain (41) - brother of ex-star player Gonzalo - is causing a stir in the USA.
He had been in office with the second team of MLS club Columbus since January 2025. Now he has lost his job, as the club announced.
During the handshake with the referee after the match against Huntsville City FC on August 24, the Argentinian did not let go and is also said to have told her: "Don't forget that it's a men's sport."
Standards Not Met
This sexist statement has now apparently cost him his job.
"Following conversations this week and further evaluation over the past month, the standards of our club regarding what is expected of a leader of one of our teams have not been met," Issa Tell - General Manager of the club - is quoted as saying.
Three games later, the 41-year-old has now lost his job.
