Dress rehearsal successful! Rout victory for LASK's first CL opponent

AEK Athens has had a successful dress rehearsal for the Champions League duel with LASK, as the capital club convincingly defeated Aris Thessaloniki 5-0 in the Greek Super League 1.

Barnabas Varga, who once played for Mattersburg and Lafnitz, gave AEK the lead in the 11th minute and doubled his tally in the 62nd minute.

With the second goal, Thessaloniki's resistance was broken. Razvan Marin scored the decisive goal (67th), and Aboubakary Koita further extended the lead (75th). Zini scored the final goal in the 90th minute.

New League Leaders

In the Greek league, AEK Athens provisionally takes the league lead with seven points from three games, while Aris Thessaloniki drops points for the first time.

On Tuesday (18:45 in the live ticker >>>), AEK Athens will face LASK in their Champions League opener. While it will be LASK's first-ever match in the "premier class," the club from the Greek capital is celebrating its comeback, having last participated among Europe's elite in 2018/19.
