The DFB-Pokal has seen its first major upset: fourth-tier side SSV Jeddeloh knocks relegated Bundesliga club 1. FC Heidenheim out of the competition with a sensational 5-2 victory.

The match at VfB Oldenburg's Marschwegstadion started early with a good chance for the underdog. Tom-Julian Kanowski hit the post after a cross from Tim Janßen (6').

At the other end, Heidenheim struck clinically. Marvin Pieringer set up Yannik Wagner, who scored to make it 1-0 for the favourite (12').

But Jeddeloh responded immediately. After a scramble in the Heidenheim penalty area, the ball fell to Kamer Krasniqi, who scored from distance into the right corner (13').

Jeddeloh Turns the Game Around

The fourth-tier side now gained more and more confidence and completely turned the game around before half-time. Jan Schöppner deflected a cross from the left side into his own net in an attempt to clear – 2-1 (27').

Just two minutes later, the next shock followed for the second-division side. Pascal Steinwender had a lot of space on the right side and found Haris Hyseni. The attacker shot directly and smashed the ball into the top corner for 3-1 (29').

Heidenheim reacted at half-time with three substitutions, including Austrian international Mathias Honsak coming into the game. However, a comeback did not materialize.

Budu Zivzivadze got a great chance to pull one back after a foul by Gazi Siala. The Georgian, however, miserably missed from the penalty spot against Jeddeloh keeper Moritz Onken (58').

Upset Complete

At the other end, Janßen ran alone towards Heidenheim goalkeeper Frank Feller a little later and was brought down by him in the penalty area. Hyseni took responsibility and calmly converted the penalty for 4-1 (70').

Just two minutes later, the upset was finally complete. Janßen appeared free in front of Feller again and this time made no mistake – 5-1 (72').

Jeddeloh thus even wrote DFB-Pokal history: Never before had a fourth-tier team scored five goals in a competitive match against a club from the 1st or 2nd Bundesliga.

Substitute Mikkel Kaufmann still scored a consolation goal for Heidenheim, reducing the deficit to 2-5 (89'). However, this no longer changed the outcome of the match.

Jeddeloh sensationally reached the second round and knocked the relegated Bundesliga side out of the DFB-Pokal. For the club, it is only their second participation in the first round after 2018/19. Back then, they also met Heidenheim and curiously lost 2-5.

Bochum Prevails Against Fürth

In the second-division duel between Greuther Fürth and VfL Bochum, Bochum prevailed 2-1.

Christian Rasmussen put the visitors ahead after 25 minutes. Philipp Hofmann sealed the victory in the 64th minute. Maxim Dal only managed to score a late consolation goal (78').

Austrian international Michael Steinwender played the full match for Bochum and delivered a strong performance in central defence.
