Muslic remains calm despite 0:3: "A good away game"

"That is the big difference"

The start to the first Bundesliga match of Muslic's coaching career went quite well. Schalke kept the game open, even having chances to take the lead through Sylla and Schallenberg.

"We had our opportunities - we have to reward ourselves for the effort. But that's a learning experience for us," Muslic explained after the match on "DAZN." Because the opponent had done exactly that: "Augsburg scored with their first chance – that's the big difference."

He liked elements of his team's play "especially in the first half." Overall, the Austrian even concluded: "I think we played a good away game." Nevertheless, the defeat was deserved. "Even by that margin," the S04 coach emphasized.

After a 0:1 at half-time, it only became truly clear after two individual mistakes by Schalke. First, Schallenberg received a red card for an emergency foul against Gregoritsch. A good fifteen minutes later, Wöber then made a misplaced pass during build-up play, which led to the 0:2.

"That we conceded the 0:2 through a grave individual mistake, and that the red card was not a great help, is of course beyond question," explained Muslic, who, however, knows how to deal with these mistakes: "Coaching is about changing behaviors and not nailing the guys to the wall after the first mistake. I don't do that. I do demand that the players are focused. But no blame at all."

Home game debut against Bayern

Next weekend, one of the toughest games of the season awaits the Gelsenkirchen side. In Muslic's Bundesliga home debut, Schalke will host FC Bayern Munich.

Asked about the atmosphere next Saturday, the 43-year-old replied: "Things are always buzzing at Schalke. That's nothing new. But the caliber is, of course, completely different."

Schalke's last home goal against the record champions was in November 2015. S04's last victory was significantly longer ago: In March 2011, they won 1:0 in the DFB-Pokal semi-final. Raul scored the decisive goal back then.
