Philipp Lienhart's defensive partner extends contract in Freiburg
This means the defensive leader will remain with the German Bundesliga club long-term. The Breisgau club did not provide details on the exact contract duration.
Defensive leader Matthias Ginter and SC Freiburg have agreed to extend their collaboration.
The third-placed team in the German Bundesliga officially announced this on Tuesday. The 32-year-old center-back, who forms the regular defensive duo with Austrian international Philipp Lienhart, has signed a new contract.
"We want to continue writing this shared success story and are maximally ambitious," the veteran is quoted in the club's press release.
Among the record players, just behind Lienhart
As usual, the Breisgau club did not provide details on the contract duration. The 51-time German international has been under contract with SC Freiburg since 2022 and has since made 255 competitive appearances. Among the current squad players, only Christian Günter (470), Vincenzo Grifo (366), Lucas Höler (317), and Philipp Lienhart (265) have made more competitive appearances for the club.
Sporting Director Jochen Saier also looks forward to the continued collaboration: "The level and consistency of his performances are impressive and have helped shape the overall sporting development of the team. Matze, after all these years in professional football, is still extremely ambitious and driven."
