Christoph Baumgartner Speaks About His Comeback

Christoph Baumgartner continues to work diligently on his comeback.

In June, the Austrian national team striker suffered a severe thigh injury during warm-up before the World Cup warm-up match against Tunisia. His World Cup dream was shattered.

The Leipzig forward now spoke to "DAZN" about his comeback. He stated that the recovery process is going well, but he still has a few weeks ahead of him.

Baumgartner is currently completing individual training sessions on the pitch, and a return to team training will likely still take some time.

Hopes for a Special Clash

He explains: "We try to push to the limit, to really exploit the limit, but never truly go beyond it. I believe a very important factor in such a rehabilitation is to work as hard as possible and constantly push to the limit, without having those absolute outliers that end up setting you back a few weeks."

Due to his rehabilitation, the 27-year-old will most likely not be available for the Champions League opener in Como. However, he is hoping to play in a special match.

"I'm really looking forward to playing Manchester United away. Before the draw, I was already hoping we wouldn't get them on the first matchday because I knew it wouldn't work out. Of course, Real away is a tough one and incredibly cool, but I've played there before. So, for that reason, the anticipation for Old Trafford might be a tiny bit greater," Baumgartner said.

The match is scheduled for December 8.
