Investor buys ex-top club for one Euro

The club is in financial difficulties and has now been sold. Symbolically, it cost one Euro.

FC Girondins Bordeaux was a big name in France for a long time. In 1995/96, the team reached the UEFA Cup final. In 2010, they were in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

However, the club is now far from those heights. Financially, they are deeply in debt and have been forcibly relegated to the sixth tier.

Champions in 2009

The US investment fund Park Bench has now taken over the club along with its debts, with a symbolic one Euro changing hands.

Bordeaux has been champions of France six times, most recently in 2008/09. With the new investor, the traditional club hopes for slow growth back towards professional football.
