The "Skyblues" won the game after a goal from Erling Haaland in the 60th minute. However, the goal should not have counted, as the referee association "Pro Ref" has now announced.

Enzo Fernandez, with an attempted flying header, did not actively interfere with play, but he did distract defender Martinez from an offside position.

VAR Duo Reportedly Sanctioned

This controversial decision now apparently has consequences for the responsible VAR duo.

Matt Donohue and his assistant Blake Antrobus are reportedly suspended from officiating for the time being, according to English media. Whether and when the two will be reinstated will be decided in the coming weeks.

"We have contacted Manchester United to acknowledge that, in our opinion, it was a wrong decision," the referee association is quoted as saying. The incident will be thoroughly investigated.
