For ÖFB defender Kevin Danso, a transfer could be imminent in the coming hours.

The 27-year-old asked for a release from his club Tottenham Hotspur this week >>>

As Danso did not play a major role in coach Roberto De Zerbi's plans at the start of the season, the central defender is now looking for a new direction.

AFC Sunderland is now positioning itself as a potential suitor.

Loan rejected, instead a permanent move?

As reported by the "BBC", the Premier League club recently attempted a loan offer for the ÖFB international. However, this is said to have been rejected by the Spurs.

Sunderland, however, does not want to be so easily deterred. According to the "BBC", the club has initiated talks for a permanent transfer.

Danso ready for transfer

At least with Danso, the transfer should not fail, according to the report. Tottenham, however, will likely want to secure the purchase of another central defender before letting the Austrian go.

Sunderland is keen to strengthen its central defence before the transfer deadline on September 1. In the first two games of the season, they suffered a defeat against Ipswich (1:2) and secured a victory against Fulham (1:0).
