FC Salzburg, an Austrian representative, enters the UEFA Europa League qualification. Here's all the information and dates for the 2026/27 Europa League season.

After FC Salzburg finished last season of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga in third place, the club from the city of Mozart enters the Europa League in the third qualifying round.

What does the path to a European league phase look like? On which days will the qualifying matches take place? When does the league phase begin and when do the knockout rounds start?

Key Dates for the Europa League 2026/27:

A total of 52 teams will participate in the Europa League qualification. Twelve teams will make it into the main competition this way. Thirteen teams are already directly qualified. The remaining eleven spots will go to clubs that failed in the last round of Champions League qualification.

Once all participants are confirmed, the draw for the league phase will take place on August 28. As usual, the draw will be conducted at UEFA's headquarters in Nyon.

Qualification:

  • 2nd Round: July 23 and 30

  • 3rd Round: August 6 and 13 (Red Bull Salzburg enters)

  • Playoffs: August 20 and 27

League Phase:

  • Matchday 1: September 16/17, 2026

  • Matchday 2: October 15, 2026

  • Matchday 3: October 22, 2026

  • Matchday 4: November 5, 2026

  • Matchday 5: November 26, 2026

  • Matchday 6: December 10, 2026

  • Matchday 7: January 21, 2027

  • Matchday 8: January 28, 2027

Knockout Phase:

  • Playoffs: February 18 and 25

  • Round of 16: March 11 and 18

  • Quarter-finals: March 8 and 15

  • Semi-finals: April 29 and May 6

  • Final: May 26

England: Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Sunderland

Spain: Celta Vigo, Real Sociedad

Germany: TSG Hoffenheim, Bayer Leverkusen

Italy: Juventus Turin, AC Milan

France: Olympique Marseille, Stade Rennes

Portugal: SCU Torreense

Netherlands: AZ Alkmaar

The Format for the 2026/27 Season:

For the third time since its introduction in 2024, the new format will be played in the upcoming season. All 36 qualified teams will be in a single league table for the league phase. Each team will play eight matches in this league phase, four at home and four away.

Accordingly, at the draw in Nyon, no groups will be drawn, but rather pairings. The clubs will be divided into four pots and will face two teams from each pot during the league phase.

At the end of the league phase, the top eight teams will advance directly to the Round of 16. Teams placed ninth to 24th will compete in a playoff round for the remaining Round of 16 tickets. For the last twelve teams, the European season is over. There will be no relegation to the Conference League.

Final in Frankfurt

The 18th UEFA Europa League final will take place on May 26 in Frankfurt am Main. Eintracht's home stadium is accustomed to major events from the past.

During the 2024 European Championship in Germany, five matches were held at Stadion Frankfurt, including four group stage games and the Round of 16 clash between Portugal and Sweden.

Where to watch the Europa League 2026/27 on stream and TV?

In Austria, Sky will broadcast all Europa League 2026/27 matches live, except for the top match chosen by CANAL+. Additionally, CANAL+ will also broadcast the final. Matches can also be watched on free-to-air TV. ServusTV has the second choice for the top match and can broadcast one game per matchday on TV.
