Urbig and Neuer doubtful: Who will be in Bayern's goal against Atletico?
The goalkeeper position could be tight for the Bavarians. An "oldie" might step in.
On Tuesday, Bayern Munich will visit Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League (kick-off 9 PM in the LIVE ticker>>>).
But who will guard the goal for the Bavarians? This question is currently still open.
Neuer still not in team training
In the top Bundesliga match at the weekend against Borussia Dortmund (2:2), Jonas Urbig was in goal because Manuel Neuer continued to suffer from tendon irritation.
His availability for Tuesday's match against Atletico is also questionable. As reported by "Bild", he has not yet been able to participate in team training, and it is said that a timely return will be difficult.
Urbig's availability also uncertain
However, his backup and designated successor Jonas Urbig is also potentially at risk of being out. The 23-year-old collided with Austrian national team player Carney Chukwuemeka against BVB, suffering a head injury and reportedly appearing dazed after the match, according to "Bild".
Around 50 minutes later he reportedly felt better, but Bayern are nevertheless not taking the matter lightly. Should signs of a concussion appear, Urbig's participation in the Champions League showdown would be in jeopardy.
An "oldie" as a good omen?
So, if both regular keepers are out, "oldie" Sven Ulreich would step in. The now 38-year-old last featured in Bayern's goal in March against Bayer Leverkusen; back then, both Neuer and Urbig were also unavailable.
However, an appearance by Ulreich could at least be considered a good omen: Ulreich last played in the Champions League in September 2024. At that time, the Bavarians steamrolled Dinamo Zagreb 9:2.
