Is WSG Tirol's Stadium Project Facing Collapse?
The second construction phase in Wattens was supposed to start at the end of August. Now, financing is stalled.
WSG Tirol had planned to return to Wattens in February 2027. Now, the new stadium construction is in doubt.
As reported by the "Tiroler Tageszeitung", during a Wattens municipal council meeting on Tuesday evening, a vote was cast against further financing for the project. WSG requires one million Euros in deficiency guarantees, which were supposed to come from the municipality.
Consequently, the plan to start the next expansion phase on August 28 cannot be maintained for now. Although two sponsors have pledged additional financing of 100,000 Euros each, a significant amount of money is still missing.
In recent weeks, work and excavation have already taken place at the Gernot-Langes-Stadion to install the pitch heating. How the stadium project will proceed now is uncertain. If the relocation cannot happen on time, WSG will have to continue playing its matches at Tivoli-Stadion in Innsbruck without a true home advantage.
