WAC: Silberberger remains in charge, veteran suspended instead!
The Bundesliga bottom-placed team parts ways with a player. The coach, however, is likely to be given more time.
These are turbulent days at Wolfsberger AC.
The bottom-placed team in the ADMIRAL Bundesliga hasn't won a game since the first round. On Sunday, they suffered another setback with a 0-2 defeat at WSG Tirol.
Silberberger Likely to Remain in Charge
President Dietmar Riegler emphasized after the game on "Sky" that he wouldn't rule anything out. However, as the "Krone" now reports, the president intends to stick with head coach Thomas Silberberger.
The Tyrolean led Monday's training session as usual.
"Every decision the president makes, I have to accept. But I haven't heard anything," the coach told the daily newspaper.
"A Line Was Crossed"
However, one player's journey with the club is over. According to the "Krone" report, Rene Renner (32) has been suspended with immediate effect and must leave the club.
The suspension came about due to an incident in the changing room. "A line was crossed. We couldn't avoid a suspension," explained Silberberger, who did not want to reveal further details. "What happens in the changing room, stays there."
According to the report, it was an act of indiscipline after the 0-3 defeat in Altach. Renner's contract would have run until summer 2027.
New Number One
Silberberger also made a firm decision regarding the starting goalkeeper. Lior Gliklich will be given a chance for at least the next three matches. The 23-year-old Israeli already started in goal against WSG.
