WSG Tirol sends WAC deep into crisis
WSG Tirol deservedly wins away at WAC. For coach Thomas Silberberger, things are getting tighter in Lavanttal.
In the ninth round of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga, WSG Tirol celebrates a 2-0 victory against the bottom-placed team from Wolfsberg.
WAC thus remains stuck at the bottom of the table. For coach Thomas Silberberger, the air is getting thinner.
WSG presses early
WSG takes control of the game from the start and combines at will. WAC struggles for a long time to find a solution and had to thank Adama Drame already after seven minutes, who was just able to deflect a shot from Nikolai Baden Frederiksen over the goal.
After fifteen minutes, however, the hosts also got better into the game and were able to create chances of their own through Phillip Verhounig.
In the 21st minute, WSG goalkeeper Hamzic was very lucky. During a goal kick, he overlooked the approaching Giacomo Vrioni. With his block, however, he only deflected the ball onto the post.
Wels delivers
Shortly before halftime, newcomer Wels provided WSG with a deserved lead. After a perfect pass into the channel, Wels got the shot away and acrobatically guided the ball past Gliklich in the WAC goal (38th minute). The lead for the Wattener had been coming.
The Wolfsbergers repeatedly created good chances, but played them out too inaccurately.
At halftime, both teams made substitutions, which brought more momentum into the game. WAC alone made three changes at the break.
WAC striker Vrioni, in particular, became increasingly dangerous but couldn't reward himself.
WSG scores during WAC's pressure phase
However, the visitors scored again. Centre-back Kubatta asserted himself in the penalty area after a free-kick in the style of a striker and drilled the ball with a low shot into the far corner for 0-2 (60th minute).
WAC fought back with all its might, but as so often this season, nothing truly wanted to come off. Especially in the final third, they lacked creativity and inspiring ideas against the Wattener.
In the end, Thomas Silberberger's team had to concede defeat for the seventh time this season. Things continue to be difficult in Carinthia.
Next fixtures
Next week, the Wolfsbergers will face Hartberg away and have another chance for important points there. Whether Silberberger will be allowed to watch the game from the dugout remains to be seen.
For the Tyroleans, next week brings a home game against GAK. A level playing field can be expected here as well.
