FAK's Woes: "We got off lightly with the 0:3"

Vienna's Austria botched the start of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga season in Lavanttal.

Against Wolfsberger AC, FAK had to concede a 0:3 defeat just days before their away match against Beitar Jerusalem in the 3rd round of the UEFA Conference League Qualifiers.

Especially in attack, the "Violets" were ineffective for a long time: "We weren't up to par. The course of the game was also a bit unlucky for us, but over 90 minutes, it was still far too little," says Johannes Eggestein on "Sky".

The striker finds clear words: "With the 0:3, we can still drive home feeling we got off lightly."

Eggestein: "Had too few solutions"

WAC would have done better and had the momentum on their side with the penalty - converted in the 18th minute by Giacomo Vrioni.

"We had too few solutions and were too imprecise in our build-up play, and as a result, we didn't get into our situations," says Eggestein.

Helm: "All in all, too little"

For Stephan Helm too, Austria's game was too imprecise and "all in all, too little". However, the FAK coach did not see better chances from the Lavanttal team.

"From open play, WAC didn't create many more scoring opportunities than we did. We had two or three situations where we got well behind their defense, where more should have come out of it."

From his point of view, the conceded goals were too easily given away.

Errors in possession: "That is actually our strength"

Against WAC, Aleksandar Dragovic, an important pillar, was missing due to a concussion. Additionally, new signing Julian Hettwer and youngster Markovic initially sat on the bench.

Helm, however, doesn't want to use that as an excuse: "We could have simply played better with the team we had on the pitch. We certainly created these situations in the first half."

But in the build-up play, the Violets were "too sluggish," although this is actually one of Austria's strengths. "Of course, we have a squad that isn't so well-rehearsed, and naturally, some potential is left untapped," says Helm.

After a successful start to the season with two wins in the UECL Qualifiers against FK Liepaja and one in the ÖFB Cup against Wiener Sport-Club, FAK must now accept their first setback of the season four days before the first leg against Beitar in Ploiești (Romania).
