Veratschnig Injury Worse Than Expected
The captain of FC Red Bull Salzburg is expected to be out for months. The injury he sustained while with the Austrian national team is worse than initially thought.
FC Red Bull Salzburg will likely have to do without captain Nikolas Veratschnig for an extended period.
The right-back injured his knee during his international debut, in the 3-1 home win against Kosovo. Initially, a collateral ligament strain and an absence of around two weeks were expected – however, the situation has now changed.
As reported by the "Salzburger Nachrichten", Veratschnig is also struggling with bone marrow edema. The 23-year-old from Carinthia is currently reliant on crutches; if the full-back puts weight on his knee too soon, there is a concern of a stress fracture.
Up to Twelve Weeks Out?
How long Veratschnig will actually be out depends on the healing process. However, he will likely have to rest for between six and twelve weeks.
In Veratschnig's absence, Haris Tabakovic will wear the captain's armband for the "Bulls" in the upcoming Bundesliga away match on Saturday against GAK (from 5:00 PM in the LIVE ticker).
