SK Sturm will now also be without Gizo Mamageishvili.

The Graz club confirmed this on Friday via social media. There had already been fears that the 23-year-old midfielder might have sustained a serious injury in Georgia's Nations League match against Northern Ireland (more on that >>>).

These fears have been confirmed. Mamageishvili will be out for several weeks with a foot injury, but he will continue to train in Messendorf, according to SK Sturm.

"Very bitter for us"

Sporting Director Michael Parensen said: "Gizo Mamageishvili's absence due to an injury sustained in a challenge is – especially in the current phase, where we are not lucky with personnel – very bitter for us. Despite the foot injury, Gizo can train many areas of his body and will hopefully be fully fit and available to us again very soon."

Mamageishvili has made twelve appearances for Sturm across all competitions this season (two goals, two assists), but was often only a substitute.

His absence comes in addition to that of star player Otar Kiteishvili; his Georgian national teammate will be sidelined for several more weeks after a renewed injury. This also led to criticism of the Georgian FA (read more here >>>).

His twin brother Otar Mamageishvili (WAC) has also been plagued by injury misfortune. He recently had to withdraw from the Georgian national team, thus missing out on his international debut.
