With a Wonder Goal! Rapid Clearly Wins Test Against Panathinaikos
The Hütteldorf side scores four times against the 20-time Greek champions. Louis Schaub nets a direct corner kick goal.
SK Rapid clearly won their test match against Panathinaikos FC on Wednesday, which lasted over 120 minutes, with a decisive 4-1 victory.
Marco Tilio (14th minute), Tonni Adamsen (37th), Moulaye Haidara (43rd), and Louis Schaub (88th) all got on the scoresheet at Allianz Stadion.
Defensive youngster Jakob Schöller led the Hütteldorf side onto the field as captain at the start. Attacking player Petter Nosa Dahl was absent due to injury.
Things got off to a good start for the Green-Whites: Tilio found himself free to shoot in the penalty area following a challenge by summer newcomer Adamsen and hammered the ball into the left corner for a 1-0 lead (14th).
Rapid added two more goals before the break. Following an assist from Yusuf Demir, Adamsen tapped in to make it 2-0 (37th). Haidara coolly extended the lead to 3-0 (43rd).
Schaub Scores a Spectacular Goal
After an hour, coach Johannes Hoff Thorup made a complete team change.
Matthias Seidl took over the captain's armband. Louis Schaub also entered the field and made his mark before the 90-minute mark. The 31-year-old scored a direct corner kick goal to make it 4-0 (88th). In the 107th minute, Pavlos Pantelidis scored a consolation goal to make it 1-4 for the Greeks.
Next Saturday (7:00 PM CEST), the Hütteldorf side will face German Bundesliga club HSV in another international friendly.
Approximately one week later, Rapid will kick off their competitive season in the UNIQA ÖFB Cup against SV Wienerberg.
