LASK Loses High-Profile Friendly Against Fenerbahce
The double winner loses the friendly match against Fenerbahce Istanbul as part of the Summer Series Upper Austria.
Last season's double winner suffers a 1-2 home defeat against Turkish top club Fenerbahce Istanbul.
The Linz side conceded an early goal. In the sixth minute, Irfan Kahveci scored for Fenerbahce. In the second half, the Turkish team extended their lead to 0-2 in the 55th minute through Kerem Akturkoglu. In the 65th minute, Krystof Danek scored for the Linz side to make it 1-2, which was also the final score.
Looking at the statistics, this result seems justified. Fenerbahce ultimately recorded 76 percent possession and took eleven shots on Lukas Jungwirth's goal.
Form Still Needs to Be Found
This result marks the third consecutive friendly defeat for Dietmar Kühbauer's team. In July, they had already lost 0-2 against Dynamo Kiew and Ingolstadt, respectively.
In four days, the champions will play their final friendly match in preparation against the relegated side from the 2. Bundesliga, Fortuna Düsseldorf.
LASK will play their first competitive match of the year in the first round of the ÖFB Cup on July 25th against Kalsdorf.
