Herzog changes opinion on Hoff Thorup
The Rapid legend was often critical of the Rapid head coach in the past, but now he's raving about him.
SK Rapid has made an excellent start to the new ADMIRAL Bundesliga season.
After seven games, they have 18 points, which puts them in first place. Only in the top match against Salzburg did they take a 1:5 thrashing.
Excluding that game, this season we have seen a Rapid team that has shown not only successful but also attractive football – a sentiment shared by Rapid legend Andreas Herzog.
In his podcast with Marc Janko, "HERZERL mit JANKO", Herzog almost gushes a little. Rapid is currently playing "top-notch football," "extremely dominant," and "confident."
Herzog: "I'm very critical, but..."
With these statements, the 58-year-old also somewhat retracts his earlier criticism of Rapid coach Johannes Hoff Thorup.
"I criticized Hoff Thorup a bit repeatedly at the beginning," he openly admits. Players were not deployed in the positions that best suited them, according to Herzog.
Now, however, the tide has turned: "The coach has set up his team so that they are now playing really good football. I have to compliment him on that. I'm very critical, but now I've changed my opinion a bit."
Hoff Thorup has found his team
Herzog continued: "He has found his team. The team is extremely top-notch in terms of play, the question will be, if there's a more difficult phase where the game can't be clearly steered in their direction from the start, whether they will fall into such a slump again like last year."
