Lindström Breaks the Deadlock

"It was a good response to Thursday's game," praised summer signing Jesper Lindström, speaking to "Sky" about his team's performance. The Dane was also the one who sealed the game with a direct free-kick in the 73rd minute.

"I am very happy for Jesper. We have brought him along gradually. Now he has rewarded himself for his hard work," said head coach Danny Röhl, finding words of praise for his protégé.

A very special goal for Lindström, as it is his first competitive goal in 1,307 days. He last scored in January 2023 in Eintracht Frankfurt's 3-0 home victory against Schalke 04.

"It was a beautiful goal. But I've had good free-kicks recently, it's just that the goalkeepers were always there," said the match-winner, who also wonderfully set up Haris Tabakovic's early opening goal with the outside of his foot.

The Important Breakthrough

"It was important that we scored the early goal and then didn't concede anything else," said Tabakovic. The early first goal, in particular, has been a recurring theme in recent matches.

Röhl confirmed this: "It was somewhat hard work. The early goal naturally helps. However, the opponent then made the spaces very tight, so you have to make good decisions, and that didn't always succeed in the first half."

Salzburg had long struggled to find the right solutions against the deep-sitting Vorarlberg team. Only in the final phase did they capitalize on their opportunities. First, through Lindström's free-kick, then through a beautiful combination involving substitute Damir Redzic.

"The substitutes brought a breath of fresh air. In one situation or another, you could still see the effects of Thursday on us. But in the end, we could have won by a bigger margin, and at the same time, they also had a good chance at 2-0," said Röhl.

Nevertheless, the German expressed satisfaction with the performance: "All in all, I'm happy. Three points, clean sheet, and now we move on to Thursday."

What Needs to Improve

He sees room for improvement primarily in their play against the ball: "We are too often in one-on-one pressing instead of having numerical superiority. We need to be more ball-oriented, even more aggressive. Against better opponents, you simply have to play more consistently. That was also evident on Thursday."

On Thursday, the "Bulls" will continue their Europa League campaign. They will travel to Slovenian champions Celje, before hosting a top match against LASK in the 'Steel City' on Sunday.
