Austria Wien Breaks Membership Record
The "Violets" are celebrating a historic milestone. The number of children and young people, in particular, has risen sharply.
On the pitch, Wiener Austria is currently in a crisis; in addition to the recent derby defeat, the club has now been waiting five games for a victory.
Off the pitch, however, the "Violets" have some good news to share: For the first time in the club's 115-year history, the club has more than 10,000 members. Wiener Austria announced this on Wednesday.
The number of members has thus quadrupled in the past five years, with a particularly sharp increase in the number of children and young people. The club now has 2,413 members aged 0-18 .
"Impressive Development"
"For me, as president of the club, it is incredibly gratifying that we have been able to gain so many members in recent years. Considering that in 2022 we exceeded the 3,000-member mark for the first time, this is an impressive development," says Austria President Kurt Gollowitzer.
"I am particularly pleased that there are also many young male and female Austrians among them. We also saw an increase in female members. This shows that our Austria is a strong community that continues to grow," the 53-year-old continued.
"The proceeds from memberships flow 100 percent into the youth and academy areas. Our members thus make an important contribution to ensuring that we can consistently continue on our path of increasingly relying on home-grown talents," says Austria Economic Director Harald Zagiczek.
