The Woodwork Secures Salzburg a Point Against GAK
Three times the Graz team hit the crossbar, resulting in a share of the points with the Salzburg Bulls.
In the eighth round of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga, GAK and Red Bull Salzburg draw goalless.
Salzburg's first big chance comes from a set piece. Lindström takes the free-kick and puts the ball right into the top corner, but GAK keeper Stankovic still fishes the ball out of the angle before the line (7.).
After just over 20 minutes, the Graz team also enter a period of pressure; after blocked shots from Klassen and Lichtenberger, however, Sollbauer fails to beat Salzburg keeper Früchtl (28.).
Sollbauer Saves for Stankovic, Konate Hits the Post
Nevertheless, the two best chances of the first half belong to the visitors.
GAK goalkeeper Stankovic comes out of his penalty area during a Bulls' counter-attack and completely misjudges it; Sollbauer has to clear Vertessens' shot for his keeper who had run into no man's land (32.). Shortly after, Konate only hits the post (38.).
Because Oberleitner with a header and Lichtenberger with his foot also fail to score for GAK just before the break, it goes into half-time goalless.
Graz Woodwork Extravaganza
Immediately after the change of ends, the Graz team also find the woodwork in their way.
Oberleitner's header bounces off the crossbar (46.), Anderson also hits the crossbar just four minutes later after a Michorl corner. At the latest with Hofleitner's header just wide of the goal (58.), the Graz team are clearly the better side.
After a brief dip in the game, Italiano hits the crossbar with a long-range shot in the 76th minute; it is the Graz team's third time hitting the woodwork in this match.
Salzburg Temporarily Top of the Table
Salzburg remain harmless for a long time; only in the 86th minute does Stankovic have to push a shot from substitute Diakite over the goal. Despite several chances, no more goals are scored until the final whistle, and it remains 0-0.
With this draw, Salzburg now have 18 points and move past SK Rapid, who have the same number of points. At least until tomorrow afternoon, Salzburg are top of the table.
GAK are provisionally in sixth place with nine points.
