SV Ried forces a draw against Salzburg
In a lively encounter, a determined Ried side takes points from FC Red Bull Salzburg, securing one point.
Red Bull Salzburg and SV Oberbank Ried drew 1-1 in Friday's match of the 6th round of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga.
Salzburg took control of the game from the outset. Edmund Baidoo had the first prime chance. He aimed for the near post and hit it. The rebound was just cleared by Leitner, with Tabakovic already lurking for the tap-in (9').
Yorbe Vertessen had two good opportunities in quick succession in the first half. The first was blasted well over the goal from about ten meters (27'), with a closer effort from twice the distance following shortly after (28').
Baidoo also remained unlucky in the first half. He tried from a half-right position. Ried's goalkeeper Andreas Leitner played a good game, stood firm in the near corner, and cleared for a corner (33'). It was goalless at halftime.
Eventful Second Half Start
Salzburg was almost caught cold after the break. Following an attack involving Schwab and Rasner, Sissoko got a shot away from 13 meters. Unpressured, he sent the ball just over the crossbar with his weaker foot (49').
In response, Vertessen had his biggest goal-scoring opportunity of the evening. Veratschnig's perfectly weighted cross was put wide of the goal from close range by him (51').
In the 68th minute, Salzburg goalie Zawieschitzky made a crucial save. With a diving effort, he rescued Ried's Chukwudi's header on the line. Ried was increasingly able to create dangerous moments.
Heated Final Phase
Following a duel on the edge of the penalty area, the ball fortuitously slipped through to Karim Konate. He elegantly finished with the outside of his foot, scoring the opening goal for Red Bull Salzburg (84').
Ried responded immediately. First, Veratschnig made a strong tackle to clear before Ried's Malicsek. From the subsequent corner, Pomer extended the ball with the back of his head, sending it impossibly into the far corner, leveling the score once again (86').
Neither team managed to land a lucky punch. The encounter ended 1-1. Salzburg remains second in the table. SV Ried climbed to eighth place.
