After last week's league defeat against Red Bull Salzburg, LASK returns to winning ways.
Dietmar Kühbauer's team defeats WSG Tirol 2-1 in the 11th round of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga.
Action-packed
After a lively opening phase from the Linzers, the visitors take the lead out of nowhere. LASK goalkeeper Lukas Jungwirth unnecessarily comes far out of his goal but is too late to the ball against Moritz Wels. The former Austria player slides the ball past the keeper and shoots from long distance and a tight angle into the far corner (16').
But the Linzers' response is not long in coming. Alessandro Schöpf impressively breaks through on the left side and then shoots from close range. Salko Hamzic in the Tirolers' goal can no longer parry the sharp shot into the near post (23').
Both Teams Unlucky
After a good half an hour, the Linzers get lucky. Nikolai Baden Frederiksen, who came on for the injured Thomas Sabitzer, suddenly breaks free and scores for the second time for the Tirolers. But the flag goes up.
The WSG striker was marginally offside when the ball was played. The Dane continued to get good chances thereafter.
Shortly before halftime, LASK celebrates, but Florian Flecker's goal also doesn't count. The goalscorer commits a foul on Moritz Oswald during the ball recovery.
LASK Counters Clinically
Immediately after the break, the hosts take the lead for the first time. After a corner kick by the Tirolers, the visitors concede a counter-attack. Adeniran accelerates and lays the ball across to the onrushing Robert Ljubicic, who only had to tap it in (48').
However, the Tirolers don't give up and keep creating good chances. Moritz Wels misses the biggest opportunity to equalize, already beating Jungwirth, but failing against Andres Andrade on the line.
In the end, WSG couldn't find the equalizer and ultimately had to admit defeat against LASK.
LASK Stays in Touch at the Top
With the 2-1 victory, the Linzers temporarily reduce the gap to the top again. WSG drops important points in the fight for the championship play-off.
Next week, LASK faces the Upper Austria derby away at SV Ried. The Tirolers host Wiener Austria next week.
