Narrow Victory! Dahl Lifts Rapid Against Altach
Rapid celebrated a successful start to the season. An early goal from Dahl leads them to a home victory.
SK Rapid celebrated a narrow 1-0 home victory over SCR Altach at the end of the first round of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga.
Rapid celebrated a dream start to the new Bundesliga season. Petter Nosa Dahl slotted the ball home on the left side under Altach keeper Stojanovic after a strong Seidl pass for a 1-0 lead (4').
Altach, however, almost equalized. Demaku sent the ball just past the left post (10'). After that, the Vorarlberg team grew bolder. Rapid almost capitalized on their somewhat riskier approach, but Demir's good shot hit the crossbar (31'). Before halftime, Kara shot the ball over Altach's goal from a promising position (33').
Rapid Fails to Extend Lead After the Break
After the break, Rapid's attack visibly lacked something. Altach, however, also barely got into dangerous areas. For Rapid, at least Adamsen had a header near the right post from a corner kick (59').
Rapid did not extend their lead, and Altach almost found the equalizer. A Massombo cross actually veered off course but hit the post (79'). In addition, Raguz was denied by a strong save from Hedl. On the other side, Tilio then forced Stojanovic into a save from distance (82').
In the final phase, Altach tried to secure a point against the now passive Rapid. Rapid, however, held on to their narrow lead and could ultimately celebrate the home victory.
