That his team struggled for a long time does not surprise Ingolitsch in the post-match interview with "Puls 4".

"A cup match like this is always hard work," explains the Sturm coach, paying respect to Seekirchen for their spirited performance. The key, he said, was to remain patient and strike at the right moment.

"We fulfilled our duty," is his conclusion.

Competition Pays Off

That Simon Seidl, of all people, one of the new signings, broke the deadlock, fits the picture perfectly.

For Ingolitsch, the goal is no coincidence. The summer additions had already proven throughout the entire preseason that they can help the team. The increased competition within the squad makes Sturm stronger overall.

Seidl himself assesses his debut goal soberly. "The opponent gives everything. It's never easy." All the more important it was to follow up consistently after the opening goal.

Although Sturm ultimately won without being in danger, Ingolitsch would have wished for more consistency in the final phase. His team wasn't always clean enough in possession and could have been even more eager for further goals.

Precisely this demand characterizes the Graz team currently: a win alone is not enough; the performance must also be right.

Nevertheless, nobody at Sturm wants to talk about championship or cup titles.

"We have to take it game by game," says Seidl. Of course, the club wants to win titles, but the path there leads only through consistent performances and the right mentality.

Sturm also showed this attitude in Seekirchen. They also want to bring this mentality onto the pitch in the second leg of the Champions League qualification in Edinburgh next Tuesday (from 20:45 in the LIVE-TICKER >>>).

"It's only halftime," says Ryan Fosso, for example, who led his team onto the field as captain for the first time against Seekirchen.

The Cameroonian international seems to take his not playing in the first leg against Hearts in stride: "Normal, we are Sturm! There's competition. We have to give everything and always help the team."
