Altach narrowly wins in Leobendorf
Ostliga side SV Leobendorf put up a committed fight for 90 minutes, keeping the Ländle-Kicker's offense under control for a long time.
SCR Altach wins 1-0 against SV Leobendorf in the first round of the UNIQA ÖFB Cup.
SCR Altach clearly dominated the game from the start, but Leobendorf put up a determined resistance. Leobendorf's goalkeeper Max Sulek had to make a double save in the 22nd minute; after a Greil corner, he first pushed Filip Milojevic's header away and then again parried a shot from Patrick Greil, who had rushed into the center (22.).
Leobendorf was not idle offensively either. After a botched header clearance, the ball fell to Felix Orgolitsch's feet in the box, who immediately shot, sending the ball just wide of the far post (37.).
Diawara with a header (42.) and Greil (45.) also had half-chances before the break, but the first half still ended goalless.
New signing Niehoff immediately makes an impression with an assist
After the break, the waiting game continued seamlessly. Altach was dominant, but not superior enough to force chances.
It wasn't until SCRA coach Ognjen Zaric brought on new signing Niklas Niehoff on the right flank after about an hour that Altach became more dangerous. Yann Massombo shot the first attempt from a cross wide of the goal (64.), but shortly after, the exact same move led to success: Niehoff's cut-back pass, Massombo slotted it in, scoring the decisive opening goal for Altach (67.).
Greil placed another volley from the edge of the box wide of the goal (77.), and Vesel Demaku failed to beat goalkeeper Sulek with a long-range shot (84.).
Right at the end, Leobendorf had another chance: Miroslav Beljan narrowly missed the goal after a pass from Orgolitsch (85.), and immediately after, substitute Eron Terziu was denied by Altach keeper Dejan Stojanovic.
The Ostliga side could not find an equalizer despite these good chances, and SCR Altach advanced to the second round of the ÖFB Cup with a narrow 1-0 victory.
