Aisowieren's Brace! Ried Overcomes Dornbirn in ÖFB Cup
After a tough start, the Upper Austrians step up and overcome the FC Dornbirn hurdle.
SV Ried has advanced to the second round of the UNIQA ÖFB Cup. The "Vikings" defeated FC Dornbirn away from home by a score of 5:1 in the first round.
In the beginning, the newly assembled squad (six new signings in the starting eleven) under new coach Mario Despotovic struggled against a deep-sitting Dornbirn side.
The Regionalliga team defended well, and Chukwudi had the first chance. His header grazed the crossbar, after which an offensive foul was called (21.).
Then came Evan Eghosa Aisowieren's moment: First, Malicsek sent a ball from the edge of the box into the middle, where Aisowieren clinically converted a header assist to give Ried the lead (30.).
And the Austrian followed up. Via Bajic and Rhodes, the ball reached Aisowieren, who secured his brace (45.).
Dornbirn Makes It Briefly Exciting
At the start of the second half, FC Dornbirn grew stronger. First, Berlinger waited too long (50.), but just five minutes later, captain Herbaly scored to pull one back with a clinical finish from a counter-attack (55.).
But the excitement didn't last long; shortly after Dornbirn's goal, Ried restored their two-goal lead. Schwab delivered a cross to Bajic, who flicked it on to Chukwudi. The new signing scored to make it 3:1 (59.).
Only a short while later, the second new signing also had reason to celebrate. After a cross, Chukwudi laid the ball off to Malicsek, who blasted it into the net for 4:1 (72.).
Tobias Lund-Jensen put the finishing touch on the scoreline, making it 5:1 in injury time (90+3.).
