For Coach Danny Röhl, only reaching the round of 16 ultimately counts: "We'll take the result. Compliments to the opponent. They did an excellent job. Played football, courageous approach. In the Cup, it's always just about advancing in the end."
Röhl responds to critics
Asked by a journalist in the mixed zone about the rather modest performance, the German coach clearly countered. "I already had the pleasure of reading something from you on Wednesday... Six wins in a row. My team is doing an excellent job. The players are doing an excellent job, that's what counts. Everything else is not important to me in this context; I'll discuss that internally with my boys," Röhl prefers to address deficiencies internally.
The significant rotation in seven positions also played a role here. Goalkeeper Früchtl celebrated his debut for FC Red Bull Salzburg. New signing Umut Tohumcu and defender John Mellberg were in the starting XI for the first time this season.
Integrating players
"In evaluating the game, one must not forget that we rotated seven players. That's what makes us strong right now. Of course, we know that things can't always run 100 percent perfectly, and we will work on that," said the Salzburg coach.
However, it was also important for Röhl "that certain players got 90 minutes today to further integrate them."
Dream record continues
Thus, Salzburg's successful record under Röhl continues; the new coach has only heard about defeats with the "Bulls" from stories.
"In the end, we scored three goals. Even if certainly one or two moments were a bit lucky because the opponent also did well, but six wins in a row – that's a statement!" the Salzburg coach clarified.
In his first eleven games, they recorded nine wins and two draws. "Eleven games unbeaten – that's the path we must continue to follow," the Salzburg coach wants to continue where he started.
Now Salzburg has no midweek fixture; on Friday, an away match against SV Ried in the ADMIRAL Bundesliga awaits. Then the seventh consecutive victory is also to be secured.
