Dominant Advance! Ried Triumphs in Local Derby
Ried confidently advances to the round of 16 in the derby against the regional league side. An efficient performance seals the preliminary decision before halftime.
SV Ried celebrates a dominant 5-1 away victory against Wallern/St. Marienkirchen in the second round of the Uniqa-ÖFB-Cup.
Initially, however, Wallern played the Cup match extremely offensively and bravely despite being clear underdogs. Ried, however, capitalized on their chances, unlike the home side.
Evan Aisowieren slotted the ball into the net after a strong combination, giving Ried the lead (17'). Nevertheless, the league leaders of the Regionalliga Nord remained offensive and came quite close to equalizing at times. However, Ried ensured a clear-cut advantage before the break.
Three Quick Goals Pave Ried's Way to Victory
A Ried corner kick was unluckily deflected into his own goal by SPG player Maximilian Straif at the near post (32'). However, it was a controversial decision whether the ball crossed the line.
Just two minutes later, Martin Rasner increased Ried's lead to 3-0 from distance. On top of that, Philipp Pomer also scored with a spectacular shot into the top right corner for a 4-0 halftime lead (39').
Even after the break, the Despotovic XI remained in scoring mood. Stefan Schwab netted to make it 5-0 after a turnover by the hosts (57').
Before the closing stages, however, Wallern scored a deserved consolation goal. Dejan Misic sparked celebrations among the home fans (79').
Thus, after a rather weaker early season phase with only one win from five matches, Ried can at least celebrate the Cup victory in the derby.
