In the Round of 16 of the UNIQA ÖFB Cup, LASK defeats SV Ried 5-4 after extra time.

In the Upper Austrian Derby, the home side initially took control of the game. Ried defended deep and tried to switch quickly to attack.

LASK first became truly dangerous through Danek. After half an hour, following a pass from Horvath, he cut in from the right and looked for the finish. However, it went just wide of the far post to the left (30.).

Ried Takes the Lead Out of Nowhere

Up to this point, Ried had virtually no offensive presence. But after winning the ball, things happened quickly. Rhodes played it through to Rasner, who spotted Maart at the far post, completely forgotten by the LASK defense. Maart calmly slotted it into the bottom right corner for 1-0 (37.).

The second half started with a bang. Ried attacked down the left wing, and Schwab was played through upfront. Although he appeared to be in an offside position, there is no VAR in the Cup Round of 16. The former Rapid player delivered the cross into the middle, and Thelin headed it in for 2-0 (48.).

LASK Responds Promptly

The Linzers responded almost immediately with their first counter-attack. Jörgensen delivered a cross into the middle, Tornich rose high and headed the ball over Leitner into the far corner (51.).

Ljubicic then entered the match and had a huge chance to equalize. Again, after a Jörgensen cross, his header went just centimeters wide of the far post (68.).

Less than two minutes later, Dibango sent Usor through on goal, and the striker also missed the target by mere centimeters with a shot towards the far post (70.).

Last-Minute Madness

Ried repeatedly switched quickly to attack. It went through Schwab, and his cross was once again pinpoint onto Maart's head, who headed it in for 3-1 (76.).

But the Linzers refused to be beaten and fought their way back again. After a corner kick, Ljubicic pushed the ball over the line for 2-3 following a rebound off the crossbar (84.).

And then it happened. In the last minute of injury time, Mbuyamba simply unleashed a shot from almost 22 meters, sending the ball unstoppably into the left corner for the 3-3 equalizer (90.+3). Before that, Ljubicic had impressively won the ball near his own corner flag, and Horvath then embarked on a solo run across half the pitch.

Ried Should Decide the Game, LASK Does

In extra time, Ried threw everything into defense. There was a counter-attacking opportunity as Ried ran two-on-one against Jungwirth, but Bajic's attempt was saved by Jungwirth (105+1.).

Instead, it was LASK who turned the match in their favor. Usor cut in from the right and gave Leitner no chance with a shot into the far corner - 4-3 (111.).

Shortly before the end, Adeniran then killed off the game. After a counter-attack, the American was through and left Leitner no chance for 5-3 (119.).

Ried did manage to score another consolation goal through Pomer for 4-5 (120.+1), but after that, the game was whistled off, and LASK advanced to the quarter-finals.
