Change of Nationality? ÖFB under pressure regarding Markovic
The ÖFB U17 runner-up can still decide which national team he wants to play for in the future.
Although Vasilije Markovic is only 18 years old, he has already carved out an important role in the first team at Wiener Austria.
The strong development of the ÖFB U17 runner-up has not gone unnoticed by the Serbian Football Association either.
As reported by the "Salzburger Nachrichten", Serbia has already contacted Markovic to convince him to switch nationalities.
ÖFB (for now) unconcerned
Markovic, who has Serbian roots, has so far only played for the ÖFB. He made an impressive 20 appearances for Austria's U17 national team, and in March he debuted for the ÖFB U21 national team.
ÖFB coach Ralf Rangnick and ÖFB youth development director Sebastian Prödl are in close contact with the 18-year-old. Currently, the ÖFB's concern that Markovic might switch nationalities is not too great.
However, Rangnick might soon call up the Austria youngster to the senior national team to tie him permanently to Austria.
