Peter Schöttel's departure as ÖFB sporting director recently stirred up a lot of dust.

Schöttel himself said at the weekend regarding his unwanted departure: "I know where it comes from." Most recently, "Sky" expert Marc Janko explained that things "didn't really work out" between the 59-year-old and head coach Ralf Rangnick.

It was indeed the case "that for some time now, Rangnick has been handling all matters important to him not through Peter, but through other people" (read more here>>>).

"That's Nonsense"

The head coach disagreed with the notion that the relationship between Rangnick and Schöttel had an influence on the sporting director's dismissal, speaking during the ÖFB squad announcement for the upcoming four Nations League matches.

"That is a decision made by the supervisory board. I was not involved in this decision," explained the 68-year-old. He emphasized that he had "worked well and trustfully with Peter Schöttel over the past four and a half years."

Regarding the rumour that he supposedly didn't get along well with Schöttel, the German stated: "That's nonsense." He affirmed that it "does not correspond to reality, which I can clearly and distinctly deny."
