Pentz Not in ÖFB Squad: "A Strange Feeling"
For the first time in a while, the goalkeeper was not called up to the squad. This is a strange feeling for him.
For Patrick Pentz, the international break has always meant joining the ÖFB team in recent years.
The goalkeeper has been nominated since 2021 and was even the number one for Euro 2024. This time, however, others were given preference. Behind Werder's reserve goalkeeper Alexander Schlager, Florian Wiegele (Viktoria Pilsen), Lukas Jungwirth (LASK) and Christian Zawieschitzky (Salzburg) have been called up.
A Blow for Pentz
"It's really a strange feeling, because this time I won't see very close friends," Pentz reveals in an interview with "Krone".
National team coach Ralf Rangnick, however, explained the situation to him, stating that the German also wanted to test other goalkeepers. "The decision, which was not personally against me, still hurt a lot," said the Bröndby goalkeeper.
However, he will naturally not give up on the national team. "I am certainly not closing the book on the national team. My hope of experiencing another major event is great," said the 29-year-old.
