Nations League: Promotion for ÖFB Team Just a Formality?

The ÖFB team's Nations League opener against Israel was successful (to the match report >>>).

According to "Football Meets Data", Austria now has excellent prospects for promotion to UEFA Nations League A. The statistics portal currently calculates the probability of the ÖFB team winning the group at 57.5 percent. The chance of promotion is estimated even higher: 69.8 percent.

Relegation to League C, however, is considered extremely unlikely. "Football Meets Data" only puts the probability at 0.5 percent.

Kosovo Also With Good Chances

After their opening victory against Ireland (to the match report >>>), Kosovo can also hope for their first-ever promotion to the top tier. The portal currently sees the probability for this at 41 percent.

Austria is considered the favourite in Group B3. This is also underlined by a look at the FIFA World Ranking: The ÖFB team is ranked 23rd, ahead of Ireland (55th), Israel (76th) and Kosovo (78th).

Five Matches Still Remain

For Austria, the campaign continues this Sunday (6:00 PM in the LIVE ticker) at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion against Kosovo. After that, the two away matches in Ireland (October 1) and against Kosovo (October 4) await, as well as two international matches in November against Ireland and Israel.

The group winner is directly promoted to League A. The second-placed team also gets a chance for promotion via a playoff in March.

Should Austria win the group, it would be the ÖFB team's second promotion to the highest Nations League tier, following 2020.
