ALEXANDER SCHLAGER
90 minutes
Austria's goalkeeper had a quiet day at the office – and couldn't distinguish himself. Because he didn't get the opportunities to do so. He plucked down one high ball that flew towards him in the 13th minute, and was helpless for the conceded goal, as the ball flew over him and in off the crossbar.
STEFAN POSCH
90 minutes, Yellow Card
Received an early yellow card for a robust challenge and subsequently showed a lot of attacking drive once again. He had a good header chance in the 32nd minute, and in first-half stoppage time, he took a shot from an offside position. He was also repeatedly involved in offensive combinations. As conspicuous as he was in the first half, he played just as inconspicuously in the second.
PHILIPP LIENHART
90 minutes
Particularly noticeable in attack – because he repeatedly sought his chance with headers from set pieces. In the third minute, he put the ball well wide, and in the 53rd minute, just wide. For the conceded goal, he didn't get into the aerial duel with his opponent. Otherwise, he was mainly occupied with build-up play.
KEVIN DANSO
90 minutes, Yellow Card
There was no getting past the center-back. He ruthlessly cleared balls that came his way, won almost all duels, and boasted a pass completion rate of 90 percent. He grappled with an opponent in their penalty area, earning yellow cards for both himself and the opponent. This proved decisive, as it was the first yellow for Abu Farkhi, who later received a yellow-red card.
PHILLIPP MWENE
90 minutes, one goal
Can and should have more confidence. His typical movement pattern was: full sprint to the opposing byline, then cut inside and look for the short pass to a teammate. This was also due to the fact that the crosses he attempted didn't always find their target. One in the 87th minute, however, was very good – but teammate Kalajdžić was blocked twice. Mwene's shot in the 84th minute was also blocked, but for the 2-1, he volleyed the ball into the net with his thigh.
XAVER SCHLAGER
90 minutes, Yellow Card
Was practically out of the game for a good half hour. In the 25th minute, he had only eleven touches, and a minute later he also picked up a yellow card. However, he progressively worked his way into the match thereafter and was able to create attacking moments – for example, with a cross to Posch (32').
NICOLAS SEIWALD
90 minutes
Temporarily took over the captain's armband from Gregoritsch. Otherwise, he played a typical Seiwald game. Unagitated, unassuming, solid in what he did. Only 36 touches, however, already suggest that it wasn't his best game, as he usually appears more active.
PATRICK WIMMER
73 minutes, Yellow Card
In the early stages, he was the most noticeable Austrian on the pitch off the ball and managed to win possession effectively. However, he had less success in attacking play. In the 24th minute, he tried a shot to the near post, having followed up well in a duel earlier – but ultimately, his teammates didn't push up quickly enough. In the 31st minute, he played a good pass for Grüll's chance. He was cautioned with a yellow card in the 64th minute and was substituted shortly after.
ROMANO SCHMID
82 minutes, one goal (penalty)
Managed the feat of solving almost every action suboptimally in the early stages, leaving a very unfortunate impression – and then still delivering a very decent performance. In the first half, he played very high as a number ten, at times pushing up almost as a second striker alongside Gregoritsch. He then took responsibility for the penalty and confidently sent the keeper the wrong way. After the break, he no longer played centrally but on the left – and was much more active thereafter, which was also due to the interplay with the good Paul Wanner.
MARCO GRÜLL
45 minutes
Often attacked the depth, but often seemed a bit lost due to his positioning when playing off the ball. His best action was in the 31st minute – he was on his own then, and his shot was deflected. The Bremen-based player was substituted at halftime, somewhat surprisingly, making way for Wanner.
MICHAEL GREGORITSCH
30 minutes
His debut as ÖFB captain didn't go as planned. Although industrious off the ball and often covering a lot of ground as the main striker (even dropping deep), he had fewer actions on the ball. After just half an hour, Gregerl's game was over – he had twisted his ankle earlier and had it taped up, but it wasn't enough for more minutes due to the injury.
ŠAŠA KALAJDZIĆ
from 31st minute, one goal
Came on and did what a Saša Kalajdžić does: be present. He shielded the balls with his two meters as well as possible (it worked well!), also earning the penalty. Before Israel's equalizer, he unintentionally deflected the ball, providing an assist, for which he cannot be blamed. Subsequently, he was repeatedly involved in dangerous attacking moments. Either with his own shots or looking for a teammate. He crowned his good (and early due to Gregoritsch's injury) substitute appearance with the goal to make it 3-1.
PAUL WANNER
from 46th minute
His half-time substitution brought a much-needed creative element to the ÖFB team. With his passes, he set up his teammates and created space. His superb cross to Mwene led to the 2-1, and he initiated the build-up to the 3-1. He puts himself forward for more minutes.
SASCHA HORVATH
from 73rd minute
Made his debut for the senior national team at 30 years old. Compared to his teammates who also came off the bench, he was significantly less noticeable, made no mistakes, but also had no real moments against an Israel team playing with a man down. He won't care, what remains is this international match – in front of his home crowd in Linz.
CHRISTOPH LANG
from 73rd minute
No misplaced passes, not quite as noticeable as Wanner or Kalajdžić – yet still an assist in stoppage time to his LASK teammate. He was diligent, his substitute appearance was decent.
CARNEY CHUKWUEMEKA
from 83rd minute
Only came on in the final phase, played too short a time for an assessment. However, he still had his actions in attacking play.
