The Captain Confusion in the ÖFB Team
Michael Gregoritsch led Austria onto the field against Israel. Afterwards, two more players wore the armband. It was complicated.
One international match, three different captains.
The captain's armband went on a journey during the ÖFB team's 3-1 home win against Israel. A curious affair.
Gregoritsch as Captain
Actually, everything was clear. The day before the start of the UEFA Nations League, head coach Ralf Rangnick announced that Michael Gregoritsch was the new captain. The Styrian then led the team onto the field in Linz.
But the striker had to leave the field injured in the first half.

Danso's Decisive Move
Confusion ensued. Kevin Danso took the armband from Gregoritsch during the substitution. "Then it wasn't entirely clear who the vice-captain was," laughs Nicolas Seiwald.
The Salzburg native continued: "Kevin pressed the armband into my hand." However, the Leipzig player wasn't entirely sure, saying he had asked Danso "if he didn't want to give it to Xaver or Posch."
Danso saw it differently. "He said I should take it," according to Seiwald, who then also served as captain until halftime.
The Revelation
However, Xaver Schlager then came out of the dressing room with the armband around his arm. Seiwald's realization: "Xaver is actually the vice-captain."
So that's settled then...
