Florian Rieder sustained a radial fracture in his hand during Austria Salzburg's 4-1 victory over Vienna and has been sidelined for five weeks now.

The highly-skilled player was actually expected to return to training soon. However, according to "SN", the club received the grim news on Tuesday: "Unfortunately, the healing process wasn't as hoped. The doctors have now decided that Florian will indeed need surgery," emphasized Austria sporting director Roland Kirchler.

The procedure is scheduled for Thursday. However, there is still hope for a return after the international break, but they must now wait and see. "It's naturally very disappointing," laments Kirchler.

The 30-year-old moved from WSG Tirol to Austria Salzburg in winter.
