Herzog on Rangnick: "A person who wants power"
Andreas Herzog questions the ÖFB and asks who would even want to be sporting director alongside Rangnick. "It has to be someone who says 'yes and amen'."
The ÖFB parted ways with sporting director Peter Schöttel last week.
For Marc Janko, the separation was not a surprise; discord behind the scenes had reportedly been audible for some time. Janko also referred to the apparently less-than-ideal relationship between ÖFB national team coach Ralf Rangnick and Schöttel on "Sky".
"It's true that for some time now, Rangnick has been handling all things important to him not through Peter, but through other people," Janko said last Thursday.

However, in his podcast "HERZERL mit JANKO", Janko remained firmly convinced before Monday's squad announcement that Rangnick had a hand in it.
His podcast partner Andreas Herzog, a former long-time teammate of Peter Schöttel, is firmly convinced that the ÖFB will only hire someone who fits the profile of the ÖFB national team coach.
"The question I honestly have to ask is: Who fits alongside Ralf Rangnick? He is a person who plans everything precisely, who also wants a bit of power. It has to be someone who says 'yes and amen'," Herzog said in the latest episode of "HERZERL mit JANKO".
Rangnick as Sporting Director Himself? "Probably the Easiest"
"Perhaps Ralf Rangnick will simply become the sporting director himself and find a right-hand person – that would probably be the easiest, the best," explains Herzog, who also questions the ÖFB's outdated system:
"I believe, no matter who the new person should be – you have to get on good terms with the regional presidents. It is necessary for you to survive at the ÖFB."
Schöttel's Exit "Styleless, Improper"
He also blames those very regional 'princes' for Schöttel learning about his dismissal through the media.
"That's what bothers me most," says Herzog. "You have 13 people who make that decision, and there are certainly a few who always leak information. The media finds out before the person actually concerned does. That sends a bad signal for the ÖFB."
Janko completely agrees with him here: "That is styleless, it's improper."
For the now vacant position of ÖFB sporting director, Janko has a very clear favorite: "The logical successor will be Sebastian Prödl, and he will do well."
